Anxiety Isn’t Just in Your Head — Your Body Feels It Too

If you live with anxiety, you probably know the feeling well: racing thoughts, a quickened heartbeat, tightness in your chest, a sense of dread that seems to come out of nowhere.

You might have tried telling yourself to “calm down” or reasoned with the anxious part of your mind—but nothing changes. That’s because anxiety doesn’t just live in your thoughts. It lives in your body, too.

And real healing means we need to include both.

Listening to What Your Body Is Telling You

Anxiety is often your body’s way of trying to protect you. Maybe from a threat that once felt real, or from overwhelm that was too much to handle alone. Over time, your nervous system can learn to stay on high alert, even when you’re technically “safe.” It’s like your body never got the message that the danger has passed.

In therapy, we gently explore this together—not by pushing you to relive difficult moments, but by helping you learn to notice and respond to the signals your body is sending.

That might mean:

  • Learning how to ground yourself when things feel too much

  • Tuning in to what helps you feel safe, steady, or soothed

  • Creating small moments of calm that your body can begin to trust

  • Reconnecting with your breath, your senses, and the present moment

We work at your pace, in a way that feels respectful and manageable.

Working With, Not Against, Your Anxiety

You may think of anxiety as the enemy—but often, it’s a part of you that’s trying really hard to keep you safe. Therapy can be a space to get curious about that part, to understand it, and to offer it something new: safety, care, and support.

Through body-based and creative approaches, we don’t just talk about anxiety—we invite your whole system into the process. You may find that as your body begins to settle, your thoughts start to shift too.

You’re Not Broken. You’re Wired for Survival.

And you’re allowed to learn a new way of being—one where calm feels more possible, where you can soften your grip on constant alertness, and where you can start to feel more at ease in your own skin.
